With motivation you need a reasoning to it. However you can't base that reasoning off something that can potentially change. For example,
Motivation to impress someone or to look good
Probably a popular reason for anyone starting to work out or even veterans. However, what happens when you've impressed someone and now you've settled down? Either your lifestyle changes or you continue working out.
Motivation to socialize and meet new people

However, generally it decreases productivity and efficiency. There are also a bunch of What ifs? what happens if they switch gyms or a conflict occurred and now you don't want to go back.
Motivation to get fit for my health and lifestyle
This is motivation backed with your own reasons. Maybe you want to be healthy or you just want to change things up but the reason is controlled by you. This is what I believe is the best option. Remain consistent, discipline is key. Changing a lifestyle is difficult but it can be done with focus.
